And everyone contributes
To the game!
When recess is a healthy, integral part of the school day, kids carry that positive experience with them beyond the playground. We are continuing to partner with PLAYWORKS-a Non-profit organization made up of coaches, kids, teachers, parents and supporters who believe in the power of play. Playworks motto is on the playground, everyone plays, everyone belongs, and everyone contributes to the game.
Our Playworks director Jake is onsite 1 week per month. During the times he is at Baywood he will be working with our lunch supervision support staff, training student coaches, teaching small groups of students’ games, working with our PE coaches to design the optimal playground play space, and developing school rules that ensures that everyone plays.
Through Playworks - Coaches, teachers, staff, and parents encourage kids to bring out the best in themselves and each other, and kids learn the value of fair play, compassion and respect.
On our playgrounds, kids will become leaders. They will run their own games and settle their disputes quickly (rock-paper-scissors is the problem solver) because getting along is more fun than fighting.
On our playgrounds, kids will play harder, cheer louder and high five with joy. And they will carry a feeling of empowerment and belonging with them into their classrooms, back to their neighborhoods and out into the world.
Each year, Playworks conducts an annual survey with teachers, administrators and support staff to learn more about the impact of our programs at our partner schools. The following are results from the 2016 Annual Survey:
